U.S. Responds Sergey Lavrov’s Comment on Clinton

Mark Toner, Spokesperson of the US Department of State, has responded to the comment of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Twitter during a press briefing.

Sergey Lavrov tweeted that by the statements of U.S. Secretary of state Hillary Clinton made in Georgia, Washington incites Mikheil Saakashvili.

Toner says that the Secretary had a very a successful visit in Georgia.

“We reiterated our core commitments to the Georgian people, to the Government of Georgia, to its sovereignty. There’s no surprise that this is an area of major disagreement between us and Russia”, Marc Toner said.

He said that there are areas in which the U.S. and Russia can constructively cooperate, “but there are areas or redlines, as the Vice President has said in the past – such as Georgia. But, we’re not going to back away from in our position”.
