Who is Dimitri Gvindadze?

As the result of a recent cabinet reshuffle, Georgia has a new finance minister. Kakha Baindurashvili has been replaced on the post of Finance Minister by his deputy Dimitri Gvindadze. Prime Minister said while introducing the new minister that Dimitri Gvindadze was in charge of attracting of foreign investments in the country and used to work quite effectively.

Experts say staff changes aren’t expected in the ministry as Gvindadze is well familiarized with the internal situation. 37-year-old minister hasn’t made any comment today.

Dmitri Gvindadze  was born in Tbilisi on December 23, 1973. In 1995 he graduated Tbilisi Technical University with honors. He has a master's degree.

In 1998 he graduated international policy studies at Paris Diplomatic Academy.

In 2001 he graduated The Hague Institute of Social Sciences, specializing in "International Relations and Development."

In 2003-2005 he studied in the USA, at Harvard University, Kennedy School, where he received his master's degree in public administration international economic development.

In  2007 he passed the Financial Programming and Policy course at the Institute of International Monetary Fund.

As for his activities :

In 1994-2003 he worked in various positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia.

Gvindadze has been working in the Ministry of Finance since 2005. He was in charge of foreign debt, cooperation with the international financial institutions and bilateral donors.

He speaks English, French and Russian. He has a wife Maya Kvaliashvili and two daughters, Natalie and Salome.

Dimitri Gvindadze is going to assume the new office since Monday.
